All our kids love to be outside. But so far, Z is our only one who is always searching for something alive. Lightning bugs, beetles, anything that he can put in a jar and keep. Even at the apartments, we'd let him go out the front door and dig for worms. He really enjoys digging for worms. Anything found typically gets named. And the names are very literal (snake-y, bright-o). It's really very funny. Even if we are kinda laughing more at him.
He's pretty sad when we have to say goodbye to a "friend." One time Brian caught a garden snake for him and he was thrilled. His name was Snake-y. And Z promptly made Snake-y a cozy home inside the bug catcher. A little while later, I came upon a sobbing devastated little boy. Apparently let Snake-y play for a while in his cool new home - a home so cool that Z left the top off on purpose. What snake in his right mind would leave? Snake-y. That's who. Broke my baby's heart! (thankfully this all occurred outside)
Anyway, Brian tries to find him things every now and then, while he's outside working. He found this gecko last Saturday. It would not close its mouth. Random. But Z loved him just the same.
